Hey folks. I thought it was time I introduce my self. I have been taking Djembe lessons for two months and a couple of weeks. I started the lessons a few weeks before my Mother passed away on May 23rd. and playing and taking lessons helped me walk through the loss which of course I am still getting through.
My lessons are at Mother Land Music which is in Inglewood, Ca. My teacher is Malik Sow. He is an awesome drummer and just a really great guy to be around.
I was fortunate to take a workshop with Mamady Keita on Saturday at Mother land and met both him and Famoudou Konate. They played a little concert for us at the end which was amazing. The whole place was singing, clapping, and rocking.
There is a very large drum community in Southern California and I am so pleased to have found Motherland Music close to Hollywood in Inglewood. It is a great crew down there and they are assembling my first Djembe drum which should be done in a couple of weeks. It is Iroko wood shell from Ivory Coast. I will also be getting a second drum soon.
My playing is coming along slowly. I am fifty three years old, so I am an old dog learning new tricks. It is a blast!
I hope if your ever in Southern California that you come visit Motherland.
