Greetings form Mount Diablo State Park, Ca.

Hi folks,
Just thought I'd introduce myself. I'm Gary and I work and live in Mount Diablo State Park, it is in the San Francisco east bay area of California. Since I was a child I have always loved music, so I tried learning the accordian and guitar and was pretty unsucessful. Somewhere in my 30s I heard a small clay fired djembe and I was hooked. It took me another 20 some years to get my life on track enough and be in a place to take it up again. Well I'm back and learning again. I've managed to procure a tripple set of congas and Djun Djun's, an Ashiko, and several Djembe's. My wish is to create a small intimate weekly/monthly drum circle and pot luck here on the mountain, to support myself and friends. Welcome to the El Diablo Drum Circle.

A couple of things I believe:

In order for humans to think and problem-solve smoothly, we must develop rhythmic skills.

13th-century poet Rumi:
Drumsound rises on the air,
It’s throb, my heart.
A voice inside the beat says,
“I know you’re tired, but come. This is the way.”

“The evocative power of the drum can be compared to the Trinity. The drum’s frame comes from the trunk of a tree, and that tree has a spirit. It is not dead wood. There is also spirit in the animal skin. If there wasn’t, it would not produce sound. Those, plus the spirit of the person playing becomes an irresistible force.” – Babatunde Olatunji
