Tuning question

Postby Jeepz » Sun Jan 18, 2009 9:59 pm

I guess this goes under Help :)

My new (5 week old) drum came tuned with 2 empty pairs on the first row. I just put in 2 new diamonds, thus finishing off the first row around the drum. I think I'm stopping here as it definitely sounds different (I'm still not entirely sure what a properly tuned drum is supposed to sound like, but it does sound better, I guess), but if I get to the point of needing to add more diamonds, what pairs am I using? On the 2 diamonds I just put in it was obvious, but now I'm looking at a complete first row of diamonds with crossed verticals, so what pair of ropes am I looking for to start the second row?

I've seen video tutorials, but they all show only the first row. I'm curious what a second row is going to look like.

Does this make any sense? I should take a picture so I can visually explain what I'm looking at and trying to figure out.

Hiya. For the first row, you are selecting the two ropes that meet together on the bottom ring and form a 'U' around the bottom ring's rope. For the second row, you select the two ropes that meet together on the TOP ring.
