Thinking of buying this drum

Postby chavesbeste » Mon Dec 26, 2011 2:57 pm

I'm thinking of buying this drum on-line. All I know is that it's from Guinea. I know that the rubber base usually indicates that its a quality instrument. The price is $230. the rope looks good but can someone identify the wood? that would tell me if its a decent drum.

Sorry, cannot identify it from the picture. But I'd rather reconsider buying a djembe on-line. You can't see the details (like how neat the rings are done) and, more important, you can't see how it sounds. If you have any chance to play a djembe before buying it, go for that...

best, jürgen

Hi,

I wouldn't take a rubber foot as a sign of quality, while the good drum makers do it it can be done easily enough.. The rope looks a bit offline and the rings a bit uneven... If you cant get to see something in person maybe someone like a reputable teacher in your area can advise you.

A Ivory Coast djembe may be your best bet for a good drum under 300. Such as the I.C. at this place.

Don't hesitate to ask for detail pics as well as questions like, does it have any cracks or repairs, is it out of round, how much will shipping be?

Thanks Drummers--
i decided that my two djembes (Mali Hare and Iroko) were enough. I went off the radar and bought a doumbek and pair of bongos. Complementary percussion!
