Hi,
I have a fibreglass djembe which I have not played for several days.
My son accidently kicked the drum over today and knocked it over onto a hardwood floor. There seems to be no visible damage, but the drum seems to have lost all of its beautiful deep bass resonance and sounds like a cardboard box. I spent a couple of hours examining the drum, applying pressure to the body, shining a light through it ... etc, but I can find no physical damage.
How durable are the fibreglass shells. Is it possible the impact has caused an invisible crack or delamination in the shell, or do I have an unrelated problem?
The drum used to have a very rich and wide range of tones, now its high pitched and flat.
Help !!!!!!
