Need sound engineering help

Postby James » Sun Aug 08, 2010 11:36 am

Hi have done and interview that has serious background noise (drums and singing).

Is it possible to exract the audio or remove the background drums?

I've tried using Audacity, but it seems to strip everything out...

Hi!, yes there are some options, for what you want...

One, is, with a mutitrack (protools, nuendo, etc) you can put the entire track of the interview in one channel, and then take an example of audio (of the noise, try to get a piece when no one is talking), with that piece, you can make a track as long as the original track is, but to the noise track, invert his polarity. So once you´ve done that, reproduce the audio and see the results.

Other option, is to do it with some noise reduction plug in, its basically what i describe above, but the plugin make the job for you.

other is to put gate with an eq, to the original track, make a gate threshold, only to get hear the voices of the interview, and touch it a bit with a parametric EQ.

Thats all i can tell.!
Bye!
Ramiro.

I've got logic pro... still learning it. My first thought was what Ramiro said about using a noise gate... you can set it to completely cut off sounds under a certain decibel... so anything quiet will get cut off (assuming the background noise isn't loud).... that's about the extent of what I know :)
