hi walter.

i'm down in santa cruz.

what kind of dununs do you want to learn? traditional style with bell or ballet style(all 3+) strapped together?

I have a friend who's based in SF who's from Conakry, Guinea who's an outstanding traditional style dunun player. his name is Bongo Sidibe. there's also Alysco Diabate...although he's in guinea right now and is supposed to surface back in Santa Cruz when he comes back. Karamba is also a great drummer and overall musician who can kill the ballet dununs.

kudos for choosing the dununs. so many people just want to play djembe, but the dununs are where it's at, particularly once you get to the higher levels of playing within an ensemble. some of the best djembefolas are also awesome dunun players, and vice versa.

@ duga,

Is Alysco based out in Santa Cruz? I've only made one class with him, and I'd love to work with him some more... He's friends with Moussa, so if he is coming out to Boston, I could probably make the class????

carl,

he's in guinea until the beginning of March. he said before he left that he's going to base down in Santa Cruz/Bay Area. we'll see if that happens or not.

he spent most of 2009 in Santa Cruz and the greater bay area.
