I think Mamady's are custom jobs. At least, I've never seen seke seke as elaborate as that for sale anywhere.

Cheers,

Michi.

I wonder who makes them. The only ones i see online that are a little different are these: http://www.x8drums.com/Ksink-Ksink-p/aim-m003.htm

But they show a few different images and its not clear what style you'll get.

Yes, but i wouldn't know how to begin. Do i need specialized equipment? I mean, if its as easy as using an exacto knife or something then I'm game.

If you want something as nice as this, I suspect you'll have to have lots of patience with a jigsaw, or have someone do it professionally with a water jet cutter.

It wouldn't be as hard as it might look. I bet you could get it done with about $15-$20 and a couple hours. Here's what I use to do similar designs in silver:

- jewelers saw, example: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000BR ... T1QGVQT7JM
-some cheap metal files
-metal shears
-a block of wood, any old block of wood but its helpful if you cut a notch into it for moving the metal around the saw instead of the saw around the metal (example: http://www.amazon.com/Spring-Loaded-Ben ... y_hg_img_b)
-and your metal (tin or whatever other metal you find for cheap should work)

Some tips:
1. Cut out the perimeter shape of the sege-sege with shears
2. Draw the design onto the metal
3. For the interior parts, drill a small hole, insert saw blade through, and cut out the design with the metal supported on a wood block (to keep it from bending from the force of the sawing action).
4. Any old drill/dremel to drill the wholes around the outside. Drill the holes with the metal on top of wood again so you don't make lots of bends in the metal.
5. Once you have all the designs cut out, go over all edges with files so there's nothing sharp left for when you're hitting your sege-sege with your hand during your fancy solos :o
6. Depending on how hard the metal is you can use your hands or a soft-head hammer to slowly/lightly bend them into shape (if you want them bent).

Those jewelers saws are cheap and great for controlled sawing, and they'll cut through thick, hard metal with the thicker blades.

Good luck if you try it! Its a good idea, and I think I'm gonna make some also, as I haven't been able to justify the purchase of some sege-sege yet. ;)

There was a discussion on homemade ksink ksinks with some pretty cool designs here:
http://djembefola.com/board/technical-advice/ksink-ksink-t2659.html?hilit=ksink

Rythm Traders sells plain and decorated (with their logo) kessing kessings:

It seems like a jeweller's saw, hammer, nail, and tin snips should allow you to make them. Tin cans (the big institutional sizes) or the mini beer kegs would make for good raw material. You'd pobably want a drill and pop-rivet to attach the sheet metal to a rod.

May I take a moment to warn you all, that once you get to the part where you have to curl all the little wire circles by hand with a pair of pliers, you better have a bottle of aspirin ready, or a better way to do it.

The cutting of the rings is a pain. Easier to use split key rings instead.

I have plain ones already, so i am just hoping to modify them. Do you think i'll have to take all the rings out?

You mean you want to cut a design into them while the rings are in place? I guess that depends on the design. If it's simple enough to be done with tin snips, you could leave the rings in place. If you want something fancy that requires a scroll saw, I suspect that the rings would get in the way.

Cheers,

Michi.
