help with rope tie-off ideas

Postby Justin » Thu Jan 14, 2010 5:15 am

I usually make a handle or weave something interesting with the remainder of my rope like a tassle. Sometimes I wrap the excess below the bottom ring.
I want to make a handle like the one pictured below, but I don't know how to craft it. It's not like the handle I normally make.

My recommendation would be: do not use your excess tuning rope to make a handle. Get a separate section of rope, and make a handle that attaches to the rings of the drum.

Otherwise, you have to completely undo your handle if you want to tune your drum. Or, you just never tune the drum. Both are bad options for me.

Yes, good advice!

I've seen drums with this style of handle though such that the handle is not made from the excess tuning rope but is made from a separate piece.

I don't know how to make this handle though. The coarse section looks like a simple daisy chain to me. But I don't know how the wrapped section is done.

Cheers,

Michi.

thanks for the ideas about using a separate rope for the handle. I've always untied my handle to tune, then remade it later... some of us are not very smart (me), LOL.
