Cheap flights to Guinea?

Postby dleufer » Mon Jun 27, 2011 11:46 pm

Hey guys,
Anyone have any recommendations for cheap flights to Guinea from Europe. I found 660 return from Brussels which seems amazing with Brussels Airlines but I just said I'd see if anyone had any good tips.
My rough plan is to fly to Conakry, train for 1-2 months, do 1 month in Baro/Sangbralla and then 1 month in Bobo Dioulasso so I'd like to fly back from Burkina.
Do you guys know if it's possible for me to fly one-way to Conakry and get my return flight from Bobo-Dioulasso? I'm slightly worried about trouble with the Guinean immigration if I don't have a return flight from Guinea.

Thanks for any help.

Booked my flights today with www.budgetair.co.uk
I got a return flight London to Bamako for 660 euro! Pretty good. I'm flying with LHR, a Portuguese airline.
Now I just have to plan the trip! I decided to go to Bamako because my plan at the moment is to head straight to Baro for 1 month, maybe Conakry after for 1 month, then Bobo Dioulasso for 2 months of balafon and djembe. Bamako is kind of in the middle of the two places and I already know my way around which is good because at the moment I'm going on my own!

Any tips or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Congrats! I'm blown away at how much more expensive flights to Bamako or Conakry are than Accra from the western US, nearly 2x. Looks like you got a sweet deal.

Are you going to hook up with Bolo, Famadou, or Billy when you're in Guinea?

good deal.. The best I ever got was 160e bamako to london via tripoli, though i don't suppose Afriqiyah are doing much these days..

Thats some amount of travel your planning...

Evan it stands to reason that flights are cheapest from anglophone to anglophone... Got some stand by deals to gambia before and then taxi it down guinea...

these guys used to be the best from paris.. http://www.point-afrique.com/reservation_vol/vols.php
I thnk they got really hit by the violence in north mali though

I plan on going to Mansa Camio if possible. Probably won't go for any of the big djembefolas other than him. I mainly just want to play as much as possible at fetes and only do some classes. I'd be interested in learning dunun with Sidifa Koita if I make it Conakry and maybe Sayon Camara or some other Hamana djembefolas.

I was thinking about doing the trip from Gambia again but I want to go in October and it's off season for Gambia flights.

If it's the same Sidafa Koita I'm thinking of, he's now living in Montreal, as of this year. Hmmm, maybe another trip for the spring....

Regardless, it sounds like you have a great trip planned. I'll be In Ouaga until January 2, but we might make an excursion into Hamana towards the end of the month once Amadou's workshop is finished. Perhaps I'll run into you there!
