Problem with private messages?

I just sent a PM to someone on the board. However, it appears that the message is never sent. It sits in my outbox, and there does not seem to be any way to get out of there again. Previous messages were archived in the "Sent" folder.
James, the message was for you--could you check whether you received it?

it will appear in the outbox until the recipient reads it, then it will appear in the sent folder. the actual message gets sent instantly.
