Not enough Karma

Postby michi » Thu Dec 10, 2009 2:07 am

Hmmm... I just looked at this post.

Because the images are large, I did a right-click and "Open Image In New Window". What I got is: "You need more Karma in order to download this attachment!"

This ties in with my earlier post: this makes for a horrible user experience. If that happens to me on a site that I visit casually, I'd be very likely turn away and look for the information elsewhere, rather than submitting to being patronised by mindless software.

At the very least, if a download is being denied, there should friendly and detailed information as to why that happened and what to do to make the download succeed. But I can tell your right now that, if I'm required to make five posts (or whatever) first before I'm allowed to download what I want, I won't bother.

I strongly suspect that this Karma thing may turn out to be bad Karma...

Cheers,

Michi.

Just noticed: my cash on hand is now $140. Yesterday, it was somewhere over $700. What's up with that?

Cheers,

Michi.

Hmmm... Do you get Karma for giving money away? If so, kid, we could just lend the same ten bucks to each other back and forth and, presto: magic money machine :)

Cheers,

Michi.

PS: I bloody well hope I get some Karma for this important contribution of mine to the global djembe culture :)

I've been noticing some similarly odd things with this... my numbers seem to fluctuate quite a bit. ???

Man, now I'm down to $60... There is a serious money leak in this code somewhere: my Karma is disappearing faster than I can post. I think I'll stop posting for a few days, just to see whether it's possible to acquire negative karma :)

Cheers,

Michi.

I'm informed that I don't have enough karma to listen to the clip in this post. The ironic thing is that this my own clip, with me playing my own djembe. I'm obviously no longer worthy of myself--I live and learn... ;)

On a more serious note: this software upgrade is an oxymoron. It's a software downgrade that seriously affects the usability of this forum. A lot of images in many threads have disappeared, I'm no longer able to view an image in a separate window, I can no longer listen to many of the clips, my karma bucket has a big leak in it, and I can no longer get a list of active topics.

I would suggest to back out this change and to not reinstate it until the bugs are out.

Cheers,

Michi.

Just went back to that article. Now I can't view the images at all anymore, not even the in-line ones. Instead, I get the question mark icon.

James and Bubudi: this forum is seriously broken now. Anyone who comes here will probably not hang around for long...

Cheers,

Michi.
