Most likely it's a spambot thing.... All the major search engines crawl this site, and that makes it a target for spam, automated and otherwise.

yea, we're taking action about it. these days there are human spammers that get past the initial screens to create hundreds of accounts on various forums, then use bots to send loads of spam. it's pretty much impossible to guarantee no spam on the site unless we cause all new posts to require mod approval, which would be a major pain.

One option would be to require a captcha for each individual post instead of just on registration. That would provide a strong disincentive for spammers. The down-side is that we all would have to answer a captcha for each post.
