forum improvements

Postby bubudi » Tue May 19, 2009 7:13 am

hi folks,

i'm about to give the forum a bit of a tidy up and add some sections (sub-forums) to it. is there anything you'd like to see on the forum? i'm open to any reasonable suggestions. please post them here, or pm them to me.

meanwhile i've added the ability to upload/embed audio files and popular document formats directly into posts (same as many of you already do for a photo). i really encourage y'all to make use of it and share any nice recordings you have. the more you do, the more you will inspire others to do the same. also, if you have an audio file with a rhythm or song you'd like identified, then post it and someone should be able to help you with that.

expect to see some threads being moved to new sections. james is also working on making the site look sexier. we're looking forward to making this forum even better!

Be nice to have a section for African festivals and Documentaries. Loads of nice bits and pieces around. And very relevant to people studying african drumming. this could be inside the video section or media section?

Tab section?

Live recordings section?

How bout travel blogs section?

Djembe/Dance teacher section?

the dance section could be livened up a lot. Contact everyone with a dvd released and ask can you use their matherial on the site as in one lesson from each aswell as their contact information and yearly schedule. This advertises their dvd/classes and gives everybody a chance to see different dance teachers techniques and styles. could work

Same could be done for djembe teachers with dvds etc? Why don't more people who produce instructional dvds make more effort to get out some of the matherial for people to sample??

A rhythym family tree would be cool too as well. any body ever make one of those?

bubudi, thanks for your work on that. Looking forward to seeing the changes.

One issue I noticed recently is that in my email topic reply notifications, the top link no longer takes me directly to the most recent post. Instead, it takes me to the board index. Can this be fixed?

KEANIEirishdjembe wrote:Live recordings section?

I think it would be good to post live recordings under the appropriate thread.... now that we can attach MP3s directly to a forum post (nice feature, BTW).

That's a really interesting idea. I've never seen one.

thanks, guys. some great ideas.

there is already a drum/dance teacher section of sorts on the site with the countries pages. just select the country you want and a list of teachers comes up. there aren't a lot of teachers listed at the moment, but if people submit teachers' details to us, they will be added.

bops, i'm not sure exactly what link you mean. can you please pm me with more details?

Hi,
I'm wondering how to post to the blog? If you could explain how to go about that, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks,
Melanie

Hi Melanie,
At the moment you can leave a comment by clicking on where it says "1 Comment »" or clicking here:
http://djembefola.com/blog/ or if you go in to the actual post like here- http://djembefola.com/blog/djembe-london/big-bang-drumming-in-london you'll see a box for comments at the bottom.

Bops, I'll look into that problem asasp.

Keanie - great ideas dude.
Is anyone else interested in having their own blog on djembefola.com?

guys, you should seriously take up james' offer and create a blog to put down random thoughts, lessons or wisdom along your path to learning, chronicle your trip to west africa, talk about performances or workshops you've been to, new discoveries, etc.

Just a question: where is the search function and the 'newest posts' function and the watch function etc.? This board seems crippled.

search: top right of page
newest posts: when logged in you will see this option on top left of forum index page. i think you might have to click 'mark all forums read' (on the right) the first time, before this will work.
watch function: tick 'notify me when a reply is posted' when posting message/reply

it's all there, dude

i think the 'view new posts' feature only works the next time you log in, so by the time you read this it should be working for you.

Nope, sorry. No search link, no 'view latest posts' link. I logged out and back in.

Anyone else have the same problem or is it just me?
