Soninke dance

Postby bubudi » Wed Apr 28, 2010 5:14 am

the soninke are an ethnic group from the west of mali, considered the first inhabitants of the country and the descendants of the ghana empire. to the malinke and bambara they are known as maraka, while in french they are called sarahule. there are also some sizable communities of soninke living in mauritania and senegambia.

this first videos shows kande sy, an awesome soninke singer and dancer. the other dancers are great too! the sound is not the best, but this is purely for the dance!

these are from dembancane, a village in senegal.

here's a troupe playing for the association dembancane jikke, in france.
