an ex peace corps dude returns to the village of welentiguila, near segou, to build a well with others in his organisation, african sky. after the speeches were over, the village put on this celebration in their honour. these are puppets and masks which sometimes 2 or 3 men hide inside and animate. this type of celebration is called sogo bo and mainly features animal puppets. not far from the beginning of this sogo bo footage you can see secular versions of the ntomo masks (masks of a bamana initiation society). even better than the spectacular display of puppets and masks is the way in which the whole village get into the dancing together with such energy and unity.
