one of my all time favorite rhythms.

That second video is incredible. The dancing is amazing. And how Fadouba locks in with the dancer... ... unbelievable.

that 2nd youtube video is not the footage seen on M'bemba Fakoli.

the smaller kawa dancer is bouba oulare. story has it that Fadouba sensed something special in this particular son. he decided to make him apprentice under a Kawa. i have some great footage of bouba playing kawa solo on the djembe.

also, the name of the big Kawa dancer is Layeba Oulare, Bolokada's brother in law.

Cheers duga. Thats really interesting. Fadouba had a photo of his sons at the workshops in Italy and showed us the boy who was the little Kawa in the clip. He did have a funny look in his eye.

Fadouba played Kawa with us for the last workshop and it was amazing. He played solo for about 15 minutes to begin with to introduce us to this sacred rhythym. It worked, we were all enlightened for a little while. This was a great experience and so lovely to see this master in action on a rhythym he truly loves.

Keanie - sounds like an awesome workshop. I'm envious, man.

My buddy was in Guinea in '04 and told me about seeing Fadouba and his son there (not sure which son). He said that the kid was about 8 or 9 and a totally rippin' jembe player. He got the stuff recorded on Minidisc, although I've yet to hear it.
