Sounds like they could be useful - an 'every-day' kind of drum to have around?

What do you mean by "every day?"

I think I know what you mean. I used to keep one in my car and I used it in many different types of situations.

Sometimes the weight of a regular djembe is just prohibitive. Something small and light could be very useful.

Wula needs a Hiker's Edition.

i bought a wula drum 6 weeks ago. there has been delay after delay and my drum has still not shipped. has anyone else had this problem with them? i mean, i understand that things happen, but it seems to be excessive at this point.

I am really shocked. When i bought my drum from them they sent it Fed Ex overnight. I got it really fast. Is this a special order or one that is on their website? Do you live far from NYC, that could explain the delay. Call them. Theire djembes are excellent and you will love it when it arrives. Good Luck.

its a djembe from their website. the head broke while tuning before shipping so that had to be replaced. then 'unforeseen business circumstances' have caused one delay after another leading to a "next week" delivery that never comes. i live in SC, so i'm not that far away -- not halfway around the world anyway. of course i dont want to cancel the order because i know it will be a great drum, but geez, i'd kind of like to actually get it at some point, lol.

I'm liking the "Hiker's Edition" idea!

You know, with a head breaking, you really want to make sure the next head comes out right. It takes time for that to happen. They probably want to sit on it (not literally--that rarely helps) for a bit to make sure the new skin takes and won't break. I'm not there sitting alongside them, but if Galen's the one doing your drum, you have no worries about quality. They stand by their work and fix without charge if something breaks when it shouldn't.

Yeah, I've heard nothing but good things about them and Galen was very cool when I spoke with him on the phone.

Let's all pause for a moment and give thanks to Galen.

Truth is that Galen is overloaded and we need someone to help him with repairs, but trying to find someone who can do the quality level of work we insist on is very difficult. I am just seeing these posts and have not yet spoken with Galen about it, so I don't know the details, but I know that remounting a djembe takes two to three weeks...only because we pull the verticals two to three times, with rest periods in between in order for rope and skin to stretch. This ensures that you will never need to pull the verticals yourself. Notice that our drums ship out fully tuned with only one or two diamond knots, while most other companies ship with a one row already installed. Wula builds drums more slowly than others, but on the other hand you end up with less hassle and expense over time.

I will speak with Galen to see where things are at with your drum, and hopefully when can get it to you very soon.

Best,

I was - and still am - very impressed with the fact that I've barely had to do anything to adjust the tuning on my drum (bought 2007, still has the original skin and still going strong!)

Thanks so much for your attention to detail and patient craftsmanship. It is deeply appreciated!
