Anyone have any feedback with this online seller?
They have some pretty decent prices on Guinea and Ivory Coast djembes. (under 300$ USD)

Any comments on the overall quality (shell and sound) of these drums?

i have pictures of my 15" monster on here somewhere. it's impeccably carved and sounds great.

i only purchased the raw shell from them though.

i took care of the edge work and skinning myself.

i also just recently purchased a balaphon book from them too.

they seem to be a very reliable online retailer.
should i shave my moustache?

based on my observations of the pictures and sound samples of the drums featured on the website (and without having physically touched one), i would say those seem like decent drums, not fantastic, but great for the beginner to intermediate.
if you want to go one better with the same value for money in mind, right now i'd recommend you check out wula drum's sale, where you'll find very good drums anywhere from $360-$600. send them an email with your budget and what sort of drum you're looking for (wood, dimensions, shape, carving style, etc) and i'm sure they'll help you out. good luck!

I ordered a class set of drums from Djembedirect a few years ago for my school, including one of the professional line for the teacher (moi), a lenke from Mali. It is an excellent drum. I had the skin changed at Wula and they said the Djembedirect workmanship was really excellent.

whatever opinion is expressed should remain here. why edit it, it didn;t had curse words.

I had a djembe from DD, a mali shell, their mid range, not the custom line, it was assembled in Mali where as the custom ones are re headed here. It was a nice djembe with excellent sound, typical mali, rich tones, great bass and great slaps too.

The bearing edge was mali style (of course), and the shell was light (15 lbs) because of thin walls although it was a hare. I would rate the shell equivalent to Wula or DSD.

Djembedirect.com offers an excellent range of jenbes. They have the broadest continuum of qualities available appealing to all budget levels and, like Duga mentioned, they are the only regular source for high quality, huge (16" diameter) Ivory Coast and Mali shells. Their professional line is top notch. While the shells used for the professional line may not be as ornately decorated or as the big two retailers, the craftsmanship in preparing the shells and mounting of the skins done by Kaz Speirs is absolutely incredible. I checked out a few of jenbes Kaz built a couple years ago and they were definitely among the best put together jenbes I have ever seen (he even carves a bottom ledge on most of the professional shells) and in dialog with Kaz I learned a thing or two about how to improve on my own drum building as well.
